TESTIMONIALS
Please read some of the wonderful testimonials that parents and
educators wrote during the partnership with The Miami Herald
in 2005.
"
We love the new addition to the Miami Herald! My daughter and her
friends read them from cover to cover on the way to school. My
daughter Meghan runs out as soon as she's dressed to find "her
section". I even sent a note with her teacher along
with a Daily 10 so that she can encourage her students
to look for
it
at home."
Yvette
" Great
newspaper!!!!!!!!! My daughter loves getting her own newspaper
each day. The articles are great and it is exciting not
only for our 8 year old, but for Mom and Dad too!!!! Keep up the great work!"
Tammy & Michael
" My daughter received these mini papers in school last week and
she loved them. Even though they are short, they contain
alot of good information and they kept her interested in reading them for
a while. Good work!"
Sabrina
" Dear staff of the Herald,
This is the first time in my life I have ever e-mailed a newspaper-----But
I am compelled to do so. I absolutely love your new
insert called the Daily 13!!! I have 4 grand daughters ages 7 to 11 and they
are enjoying this publication tremendously. Not only
do you have great pictures and articles---it is done in such an entertaining
way that I too am looking thru it daily. Thank you
so
much
for filling a need for the children in our South Florida community."
Eliene
" Your recent addition to the Miami Herald is amazing! My kids are
so excited when they get their part of the newspaper.
It is a great marketing idea for the Herald because children are your future
subscribers. Additionally, providing them with
their own newspaper encourages them to read and gets them into the habit of learning
about current events via the printed press rather
than the television."
Rosemarie
" WOW! What a great idea! My little girls (5 and 7 years old) felt
so important when they found out they were going
to be getting a newspaper of their very own delivered every morning. Today
they were especially intrigued by the story about the Ice Princess
star. Thanks so much for doing this for the children. I do
think it will encourage them to read more and hopefully it will lead to a
better informed society in the future."
Kim
" Dear mr. Ibarguen: I want to thank you for initiating the Daily
7, Daily 10 and Daily 13 Childrens newspapers.
It fulfills multiple purposes. You wanted to encourage reading, it does. You
wanted
children to discuss timely topics, they will. You
presented
the material in a time span that encourages a child to read it. You
have provided an excellent tool for family discussion
at the dinner table and the format is excellent. (...) Smart move. Makes
them think, and your out of the box approach will yield
great dividends."
Clara
" I just received your letter dated April 22, 2005 explaining new
daily newspapers for children being tested by
Miami Herald. They look terrific!"
Sam
" A friend of mine from another elementary school has provided me
with a couple of samples of your Daily 10 publication.
(...) my students would definitely benefit from this resource. (...)
it's a wonderful publication."
Karen, Media Specialist
" No doubt that you're getting positive feedback. I saw it and loved
it not only for my use in the classroom
but the child that brought it to me is not an avid reader and he was very enthusiastic
about reading it. His mother told me that he looks through
the
newspaper just to find that section. So kudos to the Herald once
again."
Alina
" This was a wonderful idea! My girls ages 7 and 9 really love having
a section of the newspaper just for them.
The articles are just the right length to be useful for school activities (like
current event reports) but short enough to keep them
interested.
Good way to reach out to kids and make reading fun!
(...)
We
seem to be receiving daily issues and the teachers are grabbing
them up! I myself am in a reading resource
room for 2nd and 3rd graders who are having difficulties
with reading. I can
tell
you that the 2nd graders really like
the newspapers and
are asking for them regularly. Most of the
3rd graders
are also
interested
in them and are reading them in class.
I think for
the most part the material is interesting to
them and I find this to
be a good
motivational tool to get them to read!"
Adrianna
" I received three copies of Daily 13 in my mailbox today. You said
in your letter that you wanted some
feedback. I loved them!!!!! I teach a 5th grade gifted class. My students really
enjoyed the samples and we got into a lot of good discussions."
Joanna
" Just
wanted to let you know that my children love this. I have 3 children
that are ages 7, 8 and
10. Thus, the three separate editions are perfect. We received the first edition
on
Monday and since then, they fight to get the paper in the
morning. The articles are very relevant to their respective ages. As a long
time subscriber, I am very pleased to see the this void filled.
Keep up the great work. I only hope that everyone else feels as strong
as
I do
about this tremendous value added feature you have
brought the community."
Albert
" I am the parent of an 8 year old who attends the 2nd grade Gifted
class (...). My daughter loves
the new additions for children that she has seen thus far."
Margaret
" I
am thrilled with this kids edition of newspaper for the young
ones."
Lily
" I think the daily herald is a great idea that encourages reading
in children."
Cindy
" We
have read the Daily 10 and
Daily 7 during the last four
days. It has told us many things
happening in the world this week. It teaches us information like new vocabulary
words that are
highlighted
like we highlight in our
Reading class. I am glad that
our
school has received these free children's
newspaper.
We like
it very much, especially the comics."
AG, student
" I have been taking the copy I receive at home to school daily and
the students really enjoy
it!"
Maria, teacher
" I love your daily papers for children. What a great idea! I have
been using it with first
graders. Thanks a lot. Guess I'll have to keep my subscription..."
Wendy, teacher
" Good luck on such a wonderful product!"
Linda, classroom teacher
" My
children love the new daily papers for kids. I do too."
Ed
" Congratulations on your most innovative addition to my morning
paper -- the special
kids' editions! I teach at-risk first graders (...). My students do not
have newspapers
in their homes, and their interest level in the Daily 7 is apparent
when you
see
how
attentively they listen when I read it to them
in the mornings. In addition, when they have free time, the newspapers
are the first things many of them reach for. They lie contentedly
on the classroom rug
rereading the articles to themselves and each
other and having
lively discussions about what they have
read. Who knows what
far
reaching implications this may have in their futures.
Thank you."
Liz, teacher
" As a family, we were very pleased when we saw that the Herald would
be publishing
a newspaper catered to our 10 year old son. He always goes diving into the newspaper
for the
comics and
enjoys
reading some of the other articles in the regular
paper; but
I've
always wanted a newspaper that has
special
stories and current
events that 'filter' what he should be reading appropriate
to the age group. I don't like him coming
across
other unnecessary articles in the regular paper and this children's
one has come at just the right time! KUDOS!"
Enid
" Thank you for the copies of the Daily 7, 10 and 13. I field tested
them with several
of our students and they enjoyed it and where requesting other copies to
read. I strongly
feel that is an
excellent teaching resource that
teachers as well as students will enjoy using."
Maria, reading leader
" I applaud you for your initiative of these newspapers for children.
It really
will help the reading comprehention of our youth."
Zaida, retired teacher
" My teacher showed us an issue of this new section today, in class:
Daily 13
Personally, i think it is a great idea. It gives kids a chance to learn about
the
world, and
things that
actually
interest them. In the regular
issue of the paper, most of the information
doesn't
interest me at all.
However, in this small section that you have created just
for us kids, all the articles
caught
my
eye, and i couldn't help
myself from reading almost all
of
them. I also like that it is very unique,
with its colorful illustrations and photographs. Now, i can actually look foward
to the paper, and i will definately keep on reading.
Thanks for thinking about us teens!"
Maria
" I hope to see this insert in the fall as well... and available
in addition
to your Newspaper in Education! Our pre-readers loved shouting and sounding
out the
sight words they recognize! Is it possible to place at least one
of the articles
in Spanish in
future
publications?"
